The program which has been christened "Insuring a Brighter Tomorrow" will provide twenty-five $1,000 scholarships to South Dakota high school seniors who plan to continue post-secondary education at a college, university or technical school in South Dakota. It is funded with support from Farmers Union Insurance and Farmers Union Insurance agents in South Dakota. "We are very excited and honored to have this opportunity to assist young people as they continue their education and work toward providing future leadership in South Dakota," commented Farmers Union Insurance, Regional Manager and Farmers Union Foundation Vice President, Wayne Bartscher. According to Bartscher, scholarship awards are open to current policyholders of Farmers Union Insurance, members of the South Dakota Farmers Union, Friends of the South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation or participants in any South Dakota High School Activity Association (SDHSAA) activity. He noted that "friends" of the Foundation are defined as families who have contributed $25 or more to the Foundation during the past year. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic records; volunteer activities in school and/or community and financial need. Applications are available here, school counselors or from local Farmers Union Insurance agents. The deadline for applications is May 15, 2008. South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation awards three scholarships for 2008 -
HURON- Three individuals from Wolsey, Webster and Parkston will share $1,300 in scholarships awarded by the South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation. The 2008 scholarship recipients include Lacey Hofhenke of Wolsey, Alyssa Kuecker of Webster and Anne Wudel of Parkston.
