Qualifications
- Must be 19 years of age or older, and have completed at least one year of college or have been
employed over the last year.
- Farmers Union background/membership is helpful, but not required.
- Valid drivers license and safe driving record required. Also should have trustworthy vehicle
available for some travel. (It is rare that personal cars must be used, however if they are,
mileage is reimbursed)
- Knowledge of agriculture or background in farming/ranching helpful, desire to work with young
people and volunteers, ability to teach simple lesson plans, lead others, be creative, outgoing,
and energetic. Talents in the recreational, craft, or music areas also very helpful.
- This position applies to students interested in agriculture, education majors, and child
development majors, however it is not limited to those interests.
Job Description
- Work with over 1800 youth ages 6-18 statewide.
- Help coordinate, implement and conduct county, district, and state camps which includes
marketing, promotion and follow up. Conducting camps includes recreational activities, crafts,
sometimes music/plays, and teach lesson plans.
- Work closely with a number of volunteers to achieve set goals.
- Major emphasis is on agriculture and cooperative education in teaching lesson plans.
- Statewide travel necessary in assisting camps, company vehicles available.
- Under direct supervision of State Education Director, will also perform various office duties
(computer, mass mailings, phone calls) necessary to run the Youth Camping Program.
- Position runs middle of May through late August, summer housing in Huron provided by the
Farmers Union Foundation if needed, meals while on job covered, information on salary
available.
